Dari Abu Hurairah r.a.
KUALA LUMPUR: It has been 10 days since Muhamad Zulkifli Mohamad Zakaria's arrest by Egyptian authorities but his wife is still in the dark over the reason for his detention. Zulkifli's wife, who only wanted to be known as Hidayah, 33, is demanding to know the reason for his arrest and his condition."I refuse to believe talk that he was arrested on suspicion of terrorist involvement as there was no ulterior motive for us to be in Egypt .
"We went there because Zulkifli was sitting his syariah examination at Zamalek University for his Master's degree," Hidayah told the New Straits Times in a phone interview from her home in Manjung. She said they were at Cairo International Airport with their two sons, aged 2 and 4, on June 13 after spending a month in Egypt.
"At the Immigration checkpoint, the children and I had no problems but they stopped my husband and took him to a holding room.
"I waited for him for quite some time until an officer came and told me that my husband would not be making the flight due to an Immigration matter.
"The officer asked me to board my flight, promising that my husband would board the next flight." Hidayah was hesitant at first but consented when Zulkifli sent her a text message to tell her to go on without him."That was the last contact I had with him," said the housewife. Zulkifli, 41, works as principal of a religious school in Manjung.

Hidayah said two days after the arrest, Zulkifli contacted his friend in Egypt, saying he was not being fed.
"I am very concerned about his condition there and conveyed this to Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman at a meeting with him on Monday." Hidayah said Anifah had promised to look into her husband's case and seek his immediate release. She confirmed that Zulkilfi had been detained under the Internal Security Act in 2001 because of alleged links to Kumpulan Militan Malaysia but was released unconditionally several years later.
A spokesman for the Malaysian embassy in Egypt said Zulkifli had been detained by a special anti-terrorism police unit. "The authorities allowed us only one visit to see Zulkifli and did not tell us of the reason for his arrest." Counsellor at the Egyptian embassy in Malaysia Tamer Galal Abdel Hamid Sidky El Mawaziny said the mission had yet to receive a report on Zulkifli's arrest from Cairo.
